Seriously, though, if you can manage any stage on the Tour, you can do whatever the hell you like. This photo is from the Tour de France in 1920. The riders have extra inner tubes around their shoulders. No team cars back in the day. And apparently, these are single-speed bikes.

This reminds me of a very minor gag on Scrubs. The Janitor has been spinning a wild tale about being a world-class hurdler (which nobody believes), and then comes across a situation to put those skills into action. Immediately, a very, very 70s flashback in which not only is he a top-level hurdler, but he's smoking.
